Lavender Bowl E2963
Lavender Bowl E2963
This Bowl is hand thrown and turned on wheel. When the clay is leather hard the bowl is colored and decorated with slip* in many layers applied by hand. This technique is very old and called slip trailing.
*Slip is clay mixed with water and some kind of colour. I often use oxides mixed with stains as colour. Temperature of the firing will also effect how the colour develops.
The bowl is slowly dried and then bisque fired (low temperature firing).
Finally the bowl is fired with a thin layer of transparent glossy glaze.
Each pattern is hand decorated and unique.
This exterior of this bowl is left uncolored, so you can see the “raw” red clay through the transparent glaze.
Slipware / earthenware is fired at a much lower temperature than stoneware and porcelain and much more “soft”. Therefore it should be handled more carefully.
It is still food safe and good for every day use. Wash by hand.
Every bowl is handmade in all details of the process. Therefore, is each bowl unique and unlike factor made products, the shape, color and detailed patterne of each piece will be slightly different from each other. Due to the nature of manual work the product may have smaller pinholes and glaze flow marks.
Small crazing can occur over time as on all earthenware.
Each piece is signed and numbered.
