The Maternity Pot has a great history that goes back to around the 16th century.

The Maternity Pot is a jar for storing or bringing food often used for when a woman had given birth to a child. The women living nearby would visit the new mother and bring her porridge, soup or something similar food to strengthen the postpartum woman. It was a great help to have food in the house while the new mother was recovering from child birth. The visitor would bring back the empty pot and use it again for similar purposes or other things in her own house hold. An old and fine tradition that should have a come back.

The Maternity Pot is a great maternity gift - with or with out food.

This Maternity Pot is hand thrown and turned on wheel. Applications are shaped and carved by hand.

The Pot is then slowly dried and then bisque fired (low temperature firing).

Finally the Pot is fired with a thin layer of white glossy glaze.

Each pattern is hand made and unique.

Earthenware is fired at a much lower temperature than for example stoneware and porcelain and much more “soft”. Therefore it should be handled more carefully.

It is still food safe and good for every day use. Wash gentle by hand.

Every piece is handmade in all details of the process. Therefore they are all unique and unlike factory made products, the shape, color and the detailed pattern of each piece will be slightly different from each other. Due to the nature of manual work the product may have smaller pinholes and glaze flow and marks.

Small crazing can occur over time as on all earthenware.

Each piece is signed, dated and numbered.
