Sumi Bowl E2497
Sumi Bowl E2497
This Bowl is hand thrown and turned on wheel. When the clay is leather hard the bowl is colored and decorated with slip in many layers all by hand. This technique is very old and called slip trailing.
Hereafter the bowl is slowly dried and then bisque fired (low temperature firing).
Finally the bowl is fired with a thin layer of transparent glossy glaze.
Each pattern is hand decorated and unique.
Slipware / earthenware is fired at a much lower temperature than stoneware and porcelain. Therefore it should be handled more carefully.
It is still dishwasher- and food safe and good for every day use.
Small crazing can occur over time as on all earthenware.
Each piece is signed and numbered.
The bowl has a moss green exterior and a lavender purple interior with stripes in off white and moss green.
